John is the founding partner of the firm has 40 years of public accounting experience including twenty-two years with Ernst & Young previously Arthur Young (Principal, Audit and Entrepreneurial Services) and BDO (Partner, Audit and Litigation Services), and also eighteen years as a partner/principal at the local CPA firm level. He has extensive experience with auditing and accounting for nonprofit organizations, 401k Plans and A-133 federal audit requirements, construction, real estate, law firms, manufacturing, investment companies and various service organizations. John has served on the Board of Directors and Accounting and Auditing Committee of the California Society of CPA’s East Bay Chapter. He has an MBA in Accounting & Finance from the Haas Graduate School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley and a BS in Accounting from the University of San Francisco.
John is in charge of the Firm’s Accounting & Auditing practice and related quality control, including the employee benefit plan audits and related consulting regarding compliance with the U.S. Department of Labor & IRS requirements. John is active in the employee benefits professional community, including the San Francisco Chapter of Western Pension & Benefits Conference. His specialties include Forensic accounting and financial analysis; Construction claims; Damages and lost profits; Securities and investments; Fraud investigations; Real Estate; High technology ventures; Mergers and Acquisitions; Employee Benefits Plans; Accountant's liability; Expert testimony and reports.
John is currently President-Elect, and the past Treasurer of the San Ramon Valley Rotary Club & Foundation. He is the past president of the University of San Francisco Accounting Alumni. John is currently active in the Castro Valley, California community including Castro Valley Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Transfiguration & Our Lady of Grace churches.
James E. Phillips, CPA
Jim is head of the income tax practice of the firm. He has over 35 years of experience with public accounting and income tax experience which includes Ernst & Young (previously Arthur Young) as a Principal handling IRS audits at the San Francisco and Oakland offices and as a partner at some local CPA firms. Jim also had experience as an Internal Revenue agent in San Francisco. He uses his diverse experience to provide relevant solutions to clients regarding tax and accounting issues. Jim received a B.S. in accounting from Golden Gate University, San Francisco and also has done graduate studies at their Graduate School of Taxation. Jim is a member of the Peninsula/Silicon Valley chapter of the California Society of CPAs.
Jim is an active participant in the Mid-Peninsula San Mateo, California community, including coaching softball at St. Matthews School and services activities at Notre Dame Belmont High School.
Ken Mierzwinski, CPA, Senior Manager
Ken has over 25 years of
public and corporate accounting experience including four years with KPMG
(Audit Services) and ten years as supervising senior and audit manager with
various local CPA firms. What makes Ken valuable
is that he has sat on both sides of the fence. He also has another ten plus
years experience in the corporate private firm sector. His experience ranges
from bookkeeper to CFO to owner of KPM Accounting & Management Solutions.
Ken is a graduate of San Francisco State University with a BS in accounting and
also attended Heald Business College. Ken has served on various nonprofit
boards throughout his career.
Ken specializes in attest
services (audits/reviews/compilations/agreed upon procedures). He has a broad
range of experience with various industries, including nonprofits, A-133 single
audits, governmental agencies, healthcare, health and fitness, construction,
franchisors, churches, universities and colleges. Ken is also very active in
the SF community and volunteers his time on an on-going basis. He has worked
with troubled teens at that Tenderloin SF YMCA. He created a fitness program to
keep the teens in-shape and off the streets.
Stephannie Sink, Senior Accountant
Stephanie has public accounting and auditing experience and previously worked with the international CPA firm of KPMG, Pete Marwick in Charlotte, North Carolina after attending graduate school at the University of North Carolina. Stephanie also has corporate accounting experience with a publically held company based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Stephannie's hobbies include cross country running and other sports.
Randolf Schmidt, MBA, Staff Accountant
Randolf is part of the accounting and auditing team. He has a year experience working with Morgan Stanley in wealth management and accounting experience working with closely held companies and their owners in and cloud-based support and website analytics. Randolf served honorably for the United States Army for eight years and one tour of service. Randolf received his Bachelors in Science in Managerial Economics from University of California Davis. He is currently working towards his Masters of Financial Analysis and Investment Management as well as his MBA from Saint Mary’s College of California. Randolf is currently a part of the Davis Veterans Organization and active participant of several ministries at Faith Fellowship. Miraya Arroyo, Staff Accountant Miraya is part of the accounting and auditing team of the Firm. She is a graduate of the University of the Pacific (UOP of Stockton, California) with a B.S. in Business (Finance) and also attended St. Francis High School in Sacramento, California. She has prior experience with business forecasting and has compr skills developed during several internships during her undergraduate studies. Miraya was an active participant in her sorority while at UOP (Kappa Alpha Theta), which included responsibilities such as performing community service and participating in campus activities.
Michaela To, Staff Accountant
Michaela is part of the accounting and auditing team of the Firm. She is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz with a B.A. in Management Economics and has also attended Castro Valley High School, California. She has prior experience with business records and databases and has computer skills developed during several corporate positions she has held since graduating from college. Michaela was a volunteer at the Philippi Children's Center in South Africa.
